Attendance

Tierrasanta Elementary School

Students learn best when they attend school regularly. Children are expected to arrive at school on time every day, ready to learn. You can help your child to be successful at school by encouraging regular attendance.

TARDINESS

First Bell 7:30am / TARDY BELL 7:35 am

  • Children are expected to arrive at school ON TIME every day.
  • Those who arrive late will miss valuable learning time. Children who arrive late should report to the office first. The following may result if students are chronically tardy:

A student is classified as a truant if he/she has been absent from school without a valid excuse for three (3) full days in a school year or has tardiness of more than 30 minutes without a valid excuse on each of three (3) times in one school year. (Ed. Code Section 48260)

Contract for Independent Study (CIS)

Families who need their child to be away for multiple days (a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 20) may make arrangements in the front office one week prior to taking the time away from school. All assigned work must be completed, turned in, and of satisfactory quality for all the days of the absence to be considered "excused". Please email classroom teacher and Ms. Angela with planned vacation dates ahead of time.

Release of Students

Please email Ms. Angela or use the text only line if your need your child waiting in the office at a certain time. Students are expected to remain at school during school hours. If your child needs to be dismissed early from school, you must come to the office to check student out. A student must not be permitted to leave the school grounds without approval of his/her parent or guardian. (Dist. Procedure 6155) In case of an emergency and we are unable to reach a parent/guardian, emergency contacts listed on the registration card will be contacted. A photo ID will be required to release your student. In case of a person acting for a parent, there must be a written request from the parent before the student may be released to this adult.

Student Arrival and Dismissal

Children may arrive at school as early as 7:15am to take advantage of cafeteria breakfast program and Running Club. Supervision is provided in the cafeteria until 7:30am when children are released to line up for class.

A school initiated dismissal procedure is in place at Tierrasanta Elem to provide a safe, calm, and orderly dismissal. School grounds are officially open at 7:15am and OFFICIALLY close at 2:20pm (12:20pm TH)

Children must be picked up on time every day. There is no supervision for students after school unless they are enrolled in an after-school program. Students left in the office after school, after school grounds close may be released to a police officer if a parent cannot be reached.
